Electronics recyclers gather in Salzburg, Austria on 22-24 January for the 23rd International Electronics Recycling Congress.

The IERC 2025 brings together industry leaders, experts, and investors from more than 40 countries to discuss the latest trends, technologies, and challenges in the broad electronics recycling industry. With 300 participants and wide-ranging presentations, IERC 2025 is a ‘must-attend for all players in the circular economy,’ according to Swiss congress organiser ICM.

‘IERC 2025 is the leading platform for connecting innovation, legislation, and practical applications in electronics recycling,’ says conference steering committee chair Jean Cox-Kearns. ‘We are delighted to once again welcome top-tier experts and decision-makers from around the world to Salzburg.’

IERC speakers include:

• Paul Hagen, environmental law expert (Beveridge & Diamond, USA), will shed light on the implications of the new Basel Convention regulations on e-waste.
• Marianne Neumüller-Klapper (Nespresso Austria) and Sean Millard (The Royal Mint, UK) will present approaches to sustainable resource use through innovation and urban mining.
• Burcu Tuncer (HP, Spain) will provide insights into the successful implementation of Circular Economy legislation.
• Michelle Walsh (Compliance and Risks, Belgium) will discuss the global drive towards repairability legislation.

Site visits

The European Electronics Recyclers Association (EERA) will use the IERC stage to unveil its new guidelines on the safe handling and storage of lithium batteries while practical insights into the recycling industry will be provided through site visits to Montanwerke Brixlegg (copper recycling) and Erema Group (plastic recycling).

Expo floor

Some 30 recycling tech solution providers will showcase their latest tools and innovations on IERC’s exhibition floor.

Farewell to Salzburg; Asia version in the making

IERC will be in Salzburg for the last time. IERC 2026 will be held in Valencia, Spain.
Meanwhile congress bureau ICM has announced plans to revitalise an Asian conference focusing on best practices in automotive, electronics and battery recycling across South-East Asia. The event will take place on 11-14 November 2025 in Shanghai, China.
