The World Reuse & Recycling Forum (WRF) Asia 2026 will spotlight cutting-edge technologies and global policy trends through a high-level conference and exhibition.

Across the Asia-Pacific region, the industry is rapidly transforming amid stricter regulations, fast-evolving battery technologies, and a growing emphasis on local recycling and circular economy solutions – driven by ESG digitalization and shifting geopolitical dynamics. The editorial team at “recovery” magazine had the opportunity to speak to Ying Liu Reichenbach, Congress Manager for WRF Asia 2026, about the highlights, the specific focus and what the World Reuse & Recycling Forum has to offer visitors.

The event will take place from 30 November to 3 December 2026 in Shanghai/China.

The World Reuse & Recycling Forum will take place for the second time at the end of the year. What are your expectations regarding topics, exhibitors and visitors? What was the feedback like from the last forum?

Ying Liu Reichenbach:
The feedback from the World Reuse and Recycling Forum which took place in Shanghai in 2025 was very positive and marked a successful return to Asia for ICM. The dynamic nature of the circular economy market in Asia will again bring together stakeholders from every continent, to continue the conversations around how industry can continue to advance towards a sustainable industry for the entire value chain.

What are the most topical issues that will be the focus of the event – in the fields of batteries, automotive and electronics?

Ying Liu Reichenbach:
Our experience shows that the three industries, electronics, automotive and battery reuse and recycling have many similar challenges and questions to discuss. The geo-political context, investment, compliance and regulatory evolutions, transboundary movement, material flows, ITAD, repair, remanufacturing and producer responsibility are all major preoccupations which we expect to dominate the agenda in Shanghai this year.

Could you briefly outline to participants the added value of attending the event?

Ying Liu Reichenbach:
The event offers a high-level conference and networking and outstanding hospitality in an exclusive business setting, organized by ICM, the world’s leading recycling and circular economy congress management company for the last 30 years, including 20 in Asia. It serves as a dynamic platform for policymakers, industry stakeholders, and technology providers to exchange knowledge on transversal topics and innovations which drive the global recycling industry further towards a circular economy.

Participants can expect outstanding keynotes such as Apple, Ganfeng Lithium and Huayou last year and exclusive access to plant tours including BYD, SK Tes, NIO and Botree.

Has Shanghai established itself as a venue? Does China hold particular significance for you as an organiser?

Ying Liu Reichenbach:
Shanghai is a dynamic city with many industrial companies to visit in the region which is why ICM has returned for a second year. The WRF took place in many different locations across Asia in the past and has a vocation to do so again for its next editions.

Can you give us a brief outlook on the planned future development of the Asian Forum?

Ying Liu Reichenbach:
We expect the WRF to continue to develop and grow which is also why ICM has established offices in China. The markets we represent and the decision-makers we bring together face continued changes and challenges as they grow, due to market demand and legislative pressure. It is more important than ever that industry meets to explore together the best ways forward in a manner which benefits the environment, the and industry. ICM’s expertise is bringing leaders together!
